Meet the Coaches
Coach Matthew Mitchell
Coach Mitchell is a former collegiate baseball player, who played at Shaw University (Raleigh, North Carolina- D2) and Prince Georges Community College ( Largo, MD-D2). Throughout his college career a few Major League teams showed interest, and he was invited to several pre-draft work outs by the Washington Nationals, Kansas City Royals, and the San Diego Padres. After his playing career was over, he decided to start coaching baseball. Coach Mitchell has been coaching for the last ten years; little league all the way up to the collegiate level. Currently, he is the Head Coach of JV team at St. Albans and has previously coached at Ron Brown High School and Dematha Catholic High School. Coach Mitchell was honored as DCIAA’s (District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association) Coach of the Year in 2019.
Coach Diory Herńandez
Coach Diory Hernández is our Program Infield Instructor. A former Major League infielder with the Atlanta Braves, Coach Hernández brings years of professional playing experience and a deep understanding of the game. Signed by the Braves as an international free agent, he reached the Major Leagues in 2009 after developing through one of baseball’s top farm systems. Throughout his professional career, he earned a reputation as a fundamentally sound infielder with exceptional defensive instincts, baseball IQ, and a relentless work ethic.
Coach Diory is passionate about developing young athletes and is committed to teaching the fundamentals that translate to success at every level of baseball. His instruction emphasizes proper footwork, glove work, throwing mechanics, positioning, situational awareness, and the discipline required to excel as an infielder.
As the Program Infield Instructor, Coach Diory will work closely with players across all age groups, helping them build elite defensive skills while preparing them for high school, college, and beyond.
Coach John Allen
With a lifelong dedication to the game of baseball, Coach John brings a wealth of experience to the organization.
As a seasoned player and coach, Coach John’s knowledge has come from both sides of the field. His baseball career was built during three standout years of high school baseball. Where he developed the fundamental skills and competitive drive necessary for the next level. This dedication led to an opportunity to play college baseball for one year, during which he transitioned into a specialized role as a pitcher. Following his collegiate experience, Coach John continued to hone his craft and compete at a high level by playing two years in a competitive wood bat league, further solidifying his understanding of the game’s nuances.
Transitioning from player to mentor, Coach John has built an impressive coaching resume across various programs and age groups. He has a strong commitment to player development. Coach brought his expertise to the high school level, coaching two years at Archbishop Carroll High School where he helped student-athletes refine their skills for competitive play.
Coach John is the 10u Coach where he’s focused on instilling the fundamentals of the game, fostering a love for baseball, and developing the next generation of players.
